Welcome to the Pheasant Inn!

The first records of hospitality on the site of the current Pheasant Inn are of a drovers retreat known as the Board House in the sixteenth century when the drovers used the old roman way – Ermin Street – to herd their stock from Wales to London. The road was subsequently moved so the original Roman road now lies in the field behind the Pheasant.

In the 19th century the premises were licensed to sell beer and paraffin and although the name had been changed to The Paraffin House, the origins of the Board House can still be seen today in the wooden construction of the original pub.

The Pheasant Inn has been in private hands since 2001 and by providing high quality meals in a genuine Pub environment has developed a following of clientele who appreciate its friendly atmosphere. In 2008 The Pheasant expanded by adding 11 new modern hotel bedrooms and a modern kitchen to the existing genuine old pub which was left unchanged.

The Pheasant Inn offers a large restaurant, private parties are available upon request. There is a meeting room available by appointment, Weddings, Parties, and special functions can be arranged on request.

Being uniquely positioned within 400 yards of the M4 motorway junction 14 half way between Wales and London The Pheasant offers a comfortable alternative for the weary traveller either to break their journey for a relaxing meal or to dine and stay the night in one of the 11 bedrooms (all with en-suite bath or shower).

Being just 5 miles from the racing centre of Lambourn and 20 minutes from Newbury racecourse, there is a deliberate link to the horseracing industry which is themed in the bar/restaurant décor.
